AFT-West Virginia’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) met on November 15, 2014 in Morgantown, WV and voted to endorse the following candidates for the May 2014 primary election:
• Natalie Tennant for US Senate
• Glen Gainer for US House of Representatives (1st District)
• Congressman Nick Rahall for US House of Representatives (3rd District)

Laptops, Community Schools, Expo
Every McDowell County middle-school student will receive a free laptop this fall, courtesy of West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Connect2Compete, and the Reconnecting McDowell partnership.
The laptop distribution announced today is one of several new activities Reconnecting McDowell is unveiling as the 2013-14 school year begins.
Seven AFT members traveled to Linthicum, MD in July to participate in AFT’s Professional Development Educator Academy. Tega McGuffin (Fayette County), Angie Turkelson (Putnam County), Andy Bird (Putnam County), Corinne Scurlock (WVSSPA), Kim Hamrick (Morgan County) and Angela Schwer (Fairmont State University) spent 10 days at the union-sponsored, research-based professional development program designed to address the complexities of teaching.
