Recently, AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) partnered more closely than ever to ensure that members in both unions benefit from our collective strength. This union partnership has included coordination with political mobilization at each level of government, as well as adopting one union’s program that best supports the goals of a specific group of union members.
In a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., AFT President Randi Weingarten juxtaposed two approaches for education that would have vastly different consequences for America's students. Either build on the bipartisan consensus of the Every Student Succeeds Act to provide all families with access to great neighborhood public schools, or promote the dangerous, destructive approaches that Donald Trump's education secretary nominee advocates to undermine and privatize public education.
Disaster Relief Grants for AFT-WV Members:
As part of the Union Plus assistance programs designed to assist union members, the Disaster Relief Grant is able to help those who are facing financial hardship due to a natural disaster. The money does not have to be repaid.
To be considered for a Union Plus Disaster Relief Grant, the union member must:
