HB 2009 passes; Payroll deduction of union dues prohibited
The West Virginia Legislature passed a bill on March 19th to prohibit public employees from having their union dues automatically deducted from their paychecks, a practice that has been the norm for decades.
In order to continue coverage and benefits for our members, such as liability insurance, grievance representation, life insurance, member benefits, and professional representation, AFT-WV is switching to a new Edues platform for electronic union dues payments.
The legislative attacks continue this week, with bills designed to chip away at the grievance procedure and make the process more cumbersome for employees. HB 2009 still hasn't been signed by the Governor, so be sure to click the email action in the Update to tell him to veto the bill!
The House of Delegates approved the version of HB 2009 sent back to them by the Senate last week, effectively ending payroll deduction of union dues for public employees.
