AFT-WV’s 22nd annual Summer School hosted a record number of attendees who devoted a week to sharpening their professional skills and learning to advocate for public education and working families. Over 200 members attended this year’s event.
The week-long summer program was held June 19-23 at Camp Dawson in Kingwood, WV and allowed participants to earn three hours of graduate credit from WVU. The event is held in cooperation with the Institute for Labor Studies and Research at WVU and the Union Leadership Institute of AFT.
Members spent the week taking courses such as Thinking Math, Managing Anti-Social Behavior and Foundations of Effective Teaching. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about student loan debt forgiveness programs, available to education and public employees.
Evenings were the time to unwind and meet attendees from across the state while participating in group activities such as golf, bingo, team trivia, bible study and cornhole.
