The PEIA Cost Shifting Bill  (aka SB 268) is being rapidly moved through the legislative process. 

Here's an overview: 

Þ SB 268 is a comprehensive bill that affects 230,000 plan participants of PEIA in many different ways.

Þ SB 268 will result in a 26% premium increase for all active PEIA participants beginning July 1, 2023.

Þ Short-term and long-term effects to retiree and non-state coverage is unknown.

Þ SB 268 places a “marriage penalty” on active participants whose spouse has access to health insurance through an employer, regardless of the level or cost of that option. PEIA has reported the

House Floor Action:

The following bills were finally read a third time today and passed the House. They now move to the Senate for consideration.

• HB 2607 – Clarify that vehicles with a capacity larger than 10 passengers may be used to transport students provided that no more than 10 passengers may be transported at one time
• HB 3376 – Relating to changing the term teacher in residence to clinical teacher of record
• HB 3547 – Increasing the number of personal leave days that county board of education employees may use from 4 or 5.

The following bills were supposed to be on third reading today after being removed from the 8 PM session calendar last night. However, they’ve been moved to the inactive calendar (special calendar) for the time being.

• Com Sub for SB 10, which will permit firearms to be carried on higher education campuses, passed 84-13 in the House today.
