With the Governor proposing to reinstate options for accrued sick leave, AFT-WV put together an outline of current protocol, based on the employees hire date. The different options can be confusing and we wanted to provide some information to hopefully clarify the current law.

UNION PRESIDENT RESPONDS TO GOVERNOR’S PROPOSAL


The following is a statement from AFT- West Virginia President Christine Campbell regarding Governor Jim Justice’s press conference this morning:


A month before the November election, Governor Jim Justice held a press conference promising a 5% pay increase for teachers, service personnel and state employees during the next legislative session and pledged to set aside $100 million for PEIA.

The AFT-WV Committee on Political Education met on June 18th and voted on endorsements for the November 2018 general election. Additional endorsements for the WV Supreme Court of Appeals were made after the seats became available.

Endorsements are made using the voting record on education/worker's issues or questionaire answers/interviews of new candidates.

The grades are in! 

Teachers, service personnel and public employees earned an "A" for electing 95% of AFT-WV's endorsed candidates in the recent primary election.

This is fantastic, and proof that the strike is merely the beginning of the empowerment of education and public employees!

AFT-West Virginia is conducting its 23rd annual weeklong educational summer program. This program is offered through the joint efforts of AFT-West Virginia, the Union Leadership Institute of the American Federation of  Teachers, and the Institute for Labor Studies and Research of West Virginia University. The program is offered in the belief that training for union activists is essential to the development of a strong, pro-active union, and that active union members complement both pre-K-12 and higher education.
