Many members have questions about PEIA's Go365 program and PEIA plan changes for the upcoming fiscal year. 

The PEIA Finance Board voted in December to scale back some of the proposals opposed by AFT-WV and many participants. Click here to read about the revised plan approved by the Finance Board. 

We know there are also concerns about the GO365 program and encourage each PEIA participant to assess how it will affect them personally, as it is not a "one size fits all" program.

AFT-WV locals in North Central WV hosted their annual Legislative Round Table on January 3rd in Fairmont. 

The event was an opportunity for members to discuss education issues and legislative priorities with elected leaders from their region.  Thanks to all members and legislators who particpated!

The PEIA Finance Board has released its proposed fiscal plan for next year.

Here are the facts:

There is a $27,800,000 gap for active employees in PEIA for 2019. 

Given that $20,000,000 has been allocated in the state budget, the PEIA Finance Board is proposing over $7 million in benefit reductions and $500,000 in increased employee premiums.

The Finance Board has proposed benefit cuts and premium changes.

Dates for the 2017 PEIA Public Hearings have been scheduled as follows:

• November 6, 2017 - Morgantown
• November 14, 2017- Beckley
• November 15, 2017- Charleston

Times and locations have not been announced yet. AFT-WV will update this page as soon as the information is made public. 

There will also be 2 virtual (online) public hearings as well. The times/dates on the virtual hearings have not been announced yet. 

Additionally, AFT-WV will post comments about next year's PEIA Fiscal Plan, once it is released.

Thanks to provisions of HB 2711, teachers now have increased control regarding their planning periods and additional faculty senate days.

Under the new law:

• Planning periods cannot be “taken” from educators.
• Educators shall receive uninterrupted time for planning periods each day. 
• Administrators may not require a teacher to use the planning period time allotted to complete duties beyond instructional planning, including but not limited to, administrative tasks and meetings.

Additionally, faculty senate days increase from four to six each year, with added flexibility in scheduling those days.
