The course qualifies for certification renewal through WVDE.
You must be an AFT member in good standing to participate in the course.

Strategies for Student Success
Dates: October 9- November 13 (Classes meet once weekly, Thursday nights, via Zoom)
Instructor: Randy Halsey
Course description: Recognizing the importance of utilizing research-based, proven practices in schools and classrooms, this course contains modules to assist with scaffolding student learning to improve the quality of instruction and raise achievement levels of all students. Participants will focus on creating effective learning conditions in the classroom and adding effective tools, such as appropriate ways to 1) assess background knowledge, 2) develop student-friendly instructional plans, 3) examine units and lessons for specific learning opportunities, and 4) infuse rigor and relevance into an educator’s repertoire of instructional strategies.
Three hours of graduate credit is available through West Virginia University for $230. AFT-WV will email you the WVU registration information to complete after we confirm your membership and eligibility for the course. Class limited to 25 participants.
*Strategies for Student Success 2 will also be available for three additional hours of graduate credit, starting in February. Registration for the second class will begin in December 2023.
