COVID-19 SCHOOL CLOSURE FINANCE FAQ 3.18.2020

Q1. Will the days that are canceled due to the COVID-19 health emergency be required to be made up?
A1. No, these days will not be made up since county boards of education will be providing a variety of distance learning options to students during the time off. Since these days will count as instructional days towards the required 180 days of instruction, the days also count as employment days towards the 200 day employment contract.

Charleston, WV - After a second round of mediation today between the affected parties, a tentative agreement has been reached to settle a dispute regarding wages and benefits of school employees in Boone County. The case stems from the Boone County Board of Education’s decision to eliminate the county salary supplement for teachers and service personnel in 2016.

Representatives of all parties are currently finalizing terms of the agreement, which then must be universally approved. The details of the settlement will be addressed by the Boone County Board of Education on or before February 3

UPDATE: Due to comments from educators and the public, the state superintendent has indicated that he will recommend keeping the graduation credits the same. However, comments are still needed regarding the proposed change in the definition of a lesson plan.
