Despite our best efforts to negotiate in good faith with leadership in the House and Senate and the Governor’s office, we have not been able to make the progress needed to avoid further action. Therefore, AFT-West Virginia, WVEA and WVSSPA have called for statewide action on Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23.

·       After today’s meeting between State Superintendent Steve Paine and all county superintendents, the decision to close school on Thursday and Friday remains in the hands of each county superintendent.

The leader of AFT-West Virginia, representing teachers, service personnel and state employees, responded to statements made by Governor Jim Justice at a press conference on Thursday.

The Governor provided no new information during his press conference, only reiterated his call to freeze changes to PEIA. The discussion has been ongoing, but we’ve yet to see the details or a long-term plan.

Attention Fairmont State University employees! 

Please read this important information about proposed policy changes for employees!

After reviewing, please comment on the policy. If employees do not voice their concerns, the Board of Governors will likekly assume there are no objections to the policy.

Employees at other higher education institutions shoud also comment on the policy, as other universitieis could follow suit. 

Many members have questions about PEIA's Go365 program and PEIA plan changes for the upcoming fiscal year. 

The PEIA Finance Board voted in December to scale back some of the proposals opposed by AFT-WV and many participants. Click here to read about the revised plan approved by the Finance Board. 

We know there are also concerns about the GO365 program and encourage each PEIA participant to assess how it will affect them personally, as it is not a "one size fits all" program.
