AFT-WV held its "Professional Issues Conference" on January 31 and February 1 at the Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg. Greg Merritt, president of AFT-Wood and treasurer of AFT-WV, served as chairperson of the conference planning committee. "This conference allows teachers the opportunity to discuss important educational issues and challenges their professional growth," Merritt said. "The planning committee was pleased to hold the conference in Parkersburg and the staff at the Blennerhassett Hotel was gracious and accommodating at every turn."

   Christine Campbell, president of AFT-WV, commended Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s commitment to public education after tonight’s State of the State address in Charleston.

The 2013 AFT-WV convention, held at the Waterfront Hotel, radiated an energy that inspired participants to return to their schools and reclaim public education.


Convention delegates listened to informative presentations, attended top-notch professional workshops and also approved the 2014 Legislative Agenda. Delegates also heard a recap of the past year’s victories and challenges during Christine Campbell’s State of the Union speech.

Longtime AFT-WV activist passes away

It is with great sadness that AFT-WV shares this information. Longtime AFT-WV Executive Board member Delores Campbell passed away on Nov. 1, 2013.
Delores was a dedicated AFT member for several decades, having served many roles and offices on the state level and also in her local in Putnam County. She had a true union heart and loved her union family. We will miss her terribly.

AFT National President Randi Weingarten will speak during the WV AFL-CIO Convention, scheduled Oct. 23-24 in Charleston. More details will be provided as speaking times, travel arrangements, etc. are finalized.
